The Full Experience
The island of Zakynthos is located in the Ionian Sea, where you can also find Corfu and Kefalonia. Zakynthos is a small island and is divided into a low plain and 2/3 surface is mountains that project up to 750m above seawater. On the west side you have the high rock cliffs and the deep water that is incredibly clear blue due to the white gravel and sand. The beach of the Navagio shipwreck has been declared one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. On the east side you have the low part with many small villages and cities. Here you will find a variëty and larger beaches from white sand, gray sand to pebble and rocks. Ideal for swimming in the clear shallow water. Around the island there are many beautiful rock formations to go snorkeling where the fish swim abundantly. Zakynthos has been occupied by the Venetians for a few centuries and you can still find this architectural style everywhere. The island was then called Zante or "Il Fioro di Levante" which means the flower of the East. Zante is well known for always being green and there are beautiful flowers everywhere in every season. The Levante is also the East wind that cools off during the hottest part of the summer. If you want some more interesting facts about the island, click here
We are a bed and breakfast situated in the countryside between the olive groves and the grape fields. The house is a typical Greek-Venetian villa with a stone-built kiosk where the old people on the bench under the olive tree along the road told their stories. In the backyard the lemon and orange trees bloom at the pool.
We offer comfortable and cozy stylish rooms with an extensive breakfast. Breakfast is adapted to our guests' wishes. We ourselves are vegetarians and do not bake meat at breakfast, unless meat substitutes, if desired.
Each room has a terrace with a view from the garden or the vineyard. It is quiet here and an environment where you can recharge your batteries. We harvest our own olive oil, grow our vegetables in a large vegetable garden and brew our own wine. Everything is done as ecologically as possible. We do not use herbicides, fungicides or insecticides, but we use as many ecological degradable products and food as possible .
Environment and animal friendliness is a big motive for us. Our house has therefore become a good home for our stray dogs and cats. Even the chickens have a good live and duty to deliver the tastiest natural eggs at breakfast.
B&B KaliZoi is quite centrally located on the island and from here you are at a short distance from all corners of Zakynthos. You walk across the hill through the olive groves to the sea. On foot it's a15 minutes walk from the small village of Ammoudi with a very nice sandy beach and delicious pure taverns. Across the island are very beautiful places to walk in different types of landscapes with much Mediterranean green. From pine forests to mountains full of low herbs such as thyme, oreganum and wild sage. Landscapes with olive trees, figs, citrus trees, bananas and so many other tasty fruits. Far horisons and breathtaking views.
The capital Zakynthos is a friendly shopping city with a big harbor where beautiful dream yachts are anchored in full summer. Zakynthos has many small towns / villages with their typical sights. Several olive oil presses where you can taste the best Mediterranean olive oil. Villages where local people sell their home-made products such as oil, wine, honey, raisins and many local products.
Outside the tourist season it is very quiet in Zakynthos and you can enjoy the real Greek life. Across the entire island from the 1.8 million trees the olives are picked, the Zakynthians start at the end of October and they press them into a clear peppery green olive oil. The grapes are picked at the end of September. Their specialty is a small kind of grape which they dry in the sun and are the infamous Zakythian raisins. On the other hand a lot of tasty wine is made here. The winter in Zakynthos is very green, there is often a lot of rain in a short time, but it doesn't really get cold here. Often the sun still shines and you can still enjoy a lucious 20 ° C during the day. There are no direct flights to Zakynthos. You can fly to Athens first, possibly take a city trip and then fly to Zakynthos, take the bus or even rent a car and then drive here. For more info e-mail us.
